ROAE2 joined the training to promote rice planted area and production estimation using space-based technologies in Thailand

On October 21-22, 2024, Ms. Thanphicha Theraratchanon, Director of Office of Agricultural Economics 2 (ROAE2), assigned Mr. Phutthasak Ritkham, a photogrammetric expert in the Agricultural Information Division, to join the workshop on “Promote rice planted area and production estimation using space-based technologies in Thailand.”

On October 21, 2024, Ms. Thanyathitha Boonyamaneekul, Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), chaired the opening of the workshop with Dr. Kei Oyoshi, a representative from JAXA, at Meeting Room 3, Innovation Building, 3rd floor, OAE, with Dr. Sumalaya Ngandee, Manager of the AFSIS Secretariat Office, giving a welcome speech. The meeting was organized by the AFSIS Secretariat Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF-Japan) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

The main objective of this workshop is to enhance the capacity of Thai officials in developing and verifying rice planting area data. Including the utilization of remote sensing data in agricultural statistics, using ALOS-2 satellite data and information technology systems (International Asian Harvest Management System for Rice: INAHOR). This workshop is one of the activities under the Project for Strengthening ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Function for Emergency (SAFER) that the AFSIS Secretariat is conducting in collaboration with ASEAN member countries during 2023-2025.
